Cookie policy
Effective October 1, 2026
Optional analytics cookies
If you accept, Google Analytics sets these cookies to count visits and see which pages are used. Nothing is loaded from Google, and no cookies are set, until you accept.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Tells visits from the same browser apart, without identifying you. | 2 years |
_ga_78CTEE5H2K | Google Analytics | Keeps track of the current visit (session). | 2 years |
Google Analytics receives the pages you view, approximate location (derived from your IP address), device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. We never send it your name, email, or the names of your events, gifts or people. Google processes this data under Google's privacy policy, and our account has Google's advertising features turned off. Choosing Decline later removes these cookies.
What the app stores in your browser
Local storage is a small storage area in your browser that only this website can read. Nothing below is shared with other websites or used to track you.
| Name | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|
sb-…-auth-token | Keeps you signed in (set by our sign-in provider, Supabase). | Until you sign out |
sb-…-auth-token-code-verifier | A one-time security code used while you sign in with Google. | Removed once sign-in completes |
giftbudget-theme | Your light or dark mode choice, if you've made one. | Until you change it |
giftbudget-currency | The currency you chose for showing amounts. | Until you change it |
giftbudget-browser-alerts | Whether you turned on browser notifications for price drops. | Until you change it |
giftbudget-shown-alerts | Which price alerts have already popped up, so you don't see them twice. | Until you clear it |
giftbudget-next (session storage) | Remembers the page you were going to while you sign in. | Until you close the tab |
giftbudget-analytics-consent | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies. | Until you clear it |
giftbudget-demo-mode | Remembers that you chose "Try the demo". | Until you exit the demo |
giftbudget-demo-v1 | Demo mode only: sample data kept in your browser. | Until you exit the demo |
These items are strictly necessary for features you ask for, so they don't require consent under Canadian privacy law. Fonts and app code are served from our own site, so unless you accept analytics cookies, no third party learns that you visited.
Signing in with Google
When you choose "Continue with Google", you go to Google's sign-in page, where Google may use its own cookies under Google's privacy policy. That happens only when you sign in.
Removing stored items
- Signing out removes your session.
- You can clear everything at any time in your browser's settings (look for "site data" or "cookies and site data").
- Blocking site storage will stop you from staying signed in.
Changes
If we add other cookies or anything else that tracks you, we'll update this page and ask for your consent first where the law requires it. Questions: giftingsmartshopper@gmail.com.
